Yankee Ingenuity

We offer the following Workshops:

"User Centered Approach to Web Site Design"

At Internet Librarian 2006 in October, we're offering a fast paced (3 -hour), informative workshop that will leave you with both a process AND a plan for redesigning.

"Organization of Web Sites" workshop" (formerly called "Information Architecture")

The organization of Web sites is often an afterthought in the design process. A Web designer can employ various methods to organize content in a way that will enhance ease of use and navigability. This course presents and explores methods of organizing Web site content. Both information architecture and user-centered design methodologies including object-oriented design are presented and discussed. Students learn the pros and cons of each method and in which situations to use them, as well as the principles needed to apply them. Hands-on exercises follow each introduced concept. Prerequisites: Basic understanding of HTML programming and familiarity with Web browsers.

"Web Site Design with the Patron in Mind" workshop"

This workshop, customized to your needs, takes library staff step by step through designing - or redesigning -- library web sites. Rate varies with a sliding scale for libraries. Taught by Sue Davidsen and Everyl Yankee from Yankee Ingenuity.

"Extreme Library Web Makeovers" (for librarians & library staff; CEU credit = 1.00 hours)

Web Site Design with the Patron in Mind

This two-day workshop is periodically offered for librarians and library staff at the Michigan Library Consortium in Lansing, Michigan. We take you through the steps needed for redesigning your library web site and include discussions about real life issues.

Here's the MLC description: "Everyl Yankee and Sue Davidsen will lead a fast-paced two-day workshop that will show you how to redesign your boring old library web pages so that users can easily navigate them and actually find what they are looking for. The user-centered design approach from their book Web Design with the Patron in Mind: A Step by Step Guide for Libraries works for old and new sites and can take your web pages from pretty good to one fabulous ultimately usable "reveal." CEU credit = 1.00.
